Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose or whole wheat flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley (or 1 tsp dried)
- ¾ teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 cup milk
- 4 tablespoons canola oil or melted butter
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and parsley.
- Stir in milk and oil until just combined—don’t overmix.
- Drop heaping tablespoons of the dough directly onto the surface of hot soup or stew (simmering gently).
- Cover with a tight-fitting lid and simmer for 10–12 minutes without lifting the lid.
- Check one dumpling for doneness by cutting in half—it should be fluffy and cooked through.
- Serve hot as part of your favorite cozy soup or casserole.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, you can substitute butter for canola oil.
- These dumplings can also be served with other dishes besides soup.
