Description

Deliciously crispy honey soy chicken bites that are perfect as an appetizer or main dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 500g boneless chicken thighs or breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup water (or enough for batter consistency)
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • ½ cup honey
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch (optional, for thickening)
  • Sesame seeds (for garnish)
  • Chopped green onions (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. If you haven’t done so already, cut the chicken into bite-sized pieces and set them aside.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well, then add the egg and gradually whisk in water until you have a smooth batter.
  3. Dip each piece of chicken into the batter, ensuring it is fully coated. Shake off any excess batter.
  4. In a deep frying pan or wok, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it’s hot enough for frying (about 350°F or 175°C).
  5. Carefully add the batter-coated chicken pieces to the hot oil in batches. Fry until golden brown and crispy, about 5-7 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  6. In a separate pan, combine honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, and sesame oil over medium heat. Bring to a gentle simmer, allowing the sauce to thicken slightly. If needed, mix in cornstarch to achieve a thicker texture.
  7. Once the chicken is cooked and crispy, add it to the sauce. Toss gently to coat each piece evenly.
  8. Transfer the coated chicken to a serving platter. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and chopped green onions for added flavor and presentation.

Notes

  • For extra crunch, double fry the chicken pieces.
  • You can adjust the sweetness of the sauce by adding more or less honey.
  • Serve immediately for the best texture.
